Press release: Triathlon Coach revamps business for ‘Corona Times’

Updated: Apr 24, 2020

Self-employed Triathlon Coach and Personal Trainer, Lucy Hurn, has just launched a new Introduction to Turbo Trainer Plan, complete with video coaching and live, online strength and conditioning sessions, as part of her response to the changing exercise world and massive growth in indoor cycling and online exercise, resulting from Coronavirus.

In normal times, Lucy runs a one-woman Triathlon coaching company, Feel Fit with Lucy, and writes training plans for those preparing for races such as an Ironman, as well as coaching with local triathlon clubs. She says,

“I was starting to lose business because as well as no face to face sessions, clients had lost their jobs or their races had been cancelled and they were cutting back on training plans, and I was getting really worried about the future of my business.

But at the same time, some shops were seeing an almost 1000% rise in turbo trainer and indoor bike sales[i], and more and more people were asking me advice about adding indoor cycling into their training.

So I developed an Introduction to Turbo Training Plan. Rather than just giving you a training plan the sessions are accompanied by video coaching where I guide you through different skills and techniques, as well as sharing coaching advice on subjects such as getting set up through to training nutrition and sports psychology tips and tactics. It even includes tips for hill climbing and descending, for implementation back in the real world!

I’ve had great feedback from those on the plan who have all said the coaching means they almost forget that they’re training and certainly helps beat any of the indoor tedium”.

The plan uses a host of online technologies to stay connected. As well as the videos and online training plan, there’s workouts and a monthly coaching Q&A via Facebook and Instagram live and a 1:1 coaching call via Zoom.

Lucy, 43, has been on a sharp learning curve in terms of technology, she says

“I only launched a proper website at the beginning of this year. And now look at me! I’ve just put together a plan including 20 YouTube videos, all put together completely by myself from my kitchen!”

Lucy, a qualified Level 3 Triathlon Coach, as well as Personal Trainer, had already taken the plunge into live, online weekly home workouts, when lockdown was first announced.

“As soon as I heard about the restrictions on exercising together outside, I tried to think what I could do to help people get through the next few months. I’m convinced that exercise is vital, not only for healthy bodies, but healthy minds. Doing the session live adds some structure to everyone’s day, and brings people together as part of an online community. Many of my regulars say they look forwards to the sessions as a way of connecting to the world, as well as making sure that they finish work on time!”
